High Street Challenge

High Street Challenge is designed to inspire and interest young people in S1 - S3 in the subject of business through a day-long project. The session also encourages creative thinking and team-working.

Learners will be able to generate original ideas for a High Street shop. They will demonstrate an ability to work with others. They will pitch an idea to an audience of business volunteers and will understand working within a budget. They will research grants, loans and funds which may be available for start-up costs. They will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of an idea and will demonstrate an awareness to the needs of the community and how their business and make a contribution

Objectives

  • Gives young people knowledge and insight to improve their employability through business, social and entrepreneurial skills.
  • Provide a space for young people to interact with business people in an engaging project.
  • Encourage entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Develop enterprise awareness and an understanding of how real businesses work.

Outcomes

  • Increased awareness and level of ability in business, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills.
  • More confidence in being creative and turning ideas into reality.
  • More aware of the needs of the community and how they can become involved.
  • Are better prepared to enter the workplace through interaction with business people.

Requirements

  • Access to a computer, laptop or tablet with internet access for each group.
  • List of names of attendees organised into groups of five, with an even spread of abilities and talents in each group.
