Govan High start a new YES journey

I joined YES Delivery Officers Tom and Mark at Govan High School yesterday. They’ve been delivering the Empower Programme to pupils there and are about to embark on the YES Programme journey with them too.

The group have covered lots of activities and skills during the Empower Programme including job roles, employer expectations, CV writing, interview and presentation skills. The course is designed to equip students with skills and experience so that they can be prepared for the world of work in a practical way.

The pupils certainly seemed to be gaining a lot from their time with Young Enterprise Scotland, with everyone agreeing that they had enjoyed the programme and found it useful.

One pupil, Kalen said, 'I really like the Empower programme and prefer what we do with Young Enterprise to other classes. We’ve written CVs and I’ve already used mine to apply for a job and get some work experience.”

At the school, in the Southside of Glasgow yesterday afternoon, pupils were taking the first steps onto the YES Programme which offers them the chance to set up and run their very own business in the school. The different roles were discussed and the group split into 2 teams to come up with possible logos for their company.

They also took some time out for an awards presentation where they each received a certificate for their hard work on the Empower programme.

Deputy Head Teacher Kevin Sweeney said, 'Young Enterprise Scotland fits very naturally into what Govan High School is trying to do for its pupils. The programme also fits very well into the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellent in terms of the development of young people. It’s a realistic bridge from school to the outside world and develops vital enterprise and employability skills.”
