Edinburgh’s Junior Apprentice Search Heats Up.

The search for Lothian’s answer to Junior Apprentice steps up a gear this weekend. 35 teams from across the region are competing in the Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) Company Programme, which sees fifth and sixth year pupils set up and run their own companies during the academic year. The programme is aimed at giving students valuable real-life business experience before they embark on their professional careers.

This Saturday (1st December) the Apex International Hotel in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket will host a Christmas market where the young companies will showcase their products to the general public.

Speaking ahead of the Christmas market, Fraser Bedwell, Chairman of the YES Lothian Area Board said,

'The companies have been working hard since September setting up their businesses, raising capital, identifying potential products and services and undertaking market research. The Christmas market is the biggest sales opportunity of the year for many of them so there is a lot riding on it”.

Mr Bedwell continued, 'The students are not letting a severe recession hold them back. Anyone and anyone who is fed up hearing nothing but doom and gloom about the state of the economy should come along for a refreshing dose of innovation and positivity and to see the great products and services that the young achievers have developed in a short period of time”.

Just like the hit TV series Junior Apprentice, a team of high profile businessmen and women will be following the students every move at the Christmas market, awarding points for sales technique, the quality of the stalls and for the product ideas. This year’s judging panel comes from the Marketing Society of Scotland.

The Christmas market, which is sponsored by BT and Apex Hotels, is open from 10am until 3pm and entry is free.
