Inventors Challenge with a twist!

Lenzie Primary School contacted us here at Young Enterprise Scotland and asked us to come up with a twist on our usual Inventors Challenge programme.

We were asked to run a full day challenge for pupils in Primary 2 to Primary 7 to help them organise and plan for their individual school councils that will run through the year.

There are 7 different councils within the school with a mixed range of pupils in the groups and a teacher to help them run and organise things. Meeting up every Friday afternoon with volunteers who come to the school to provide their support, the councils cover the following areas:

Gardening EcoHealthInternational PlaygroundLibrary Technology They are all given a budget to spend a promote and improve their part of the school. Each group has their own set of goals to achieve each year and they also fundraise money.

The young people were asked to complete a range of activities throughout the Inventors Challenge including writing, rehearsing and performing presentations and making a plan for their year on council. The Primary 7 pupils take a lead in running activities.YES staff member Joanna said she hopes to go back and visit the school later on next year to find out how the groups have been getting on. So we'll be sure to keep you posted with any news!

Meanwhile, at Auchenairn Primary School, pupils were faced with an unusual training experience when Joanna truned up in fancy dress. This Inventors Challenge took place on Halloween and pupils and teachers alike had fun with costumes and other Halloween related activities.
