Cochrane Castle Primary Consider Commonwealth Games Legacy

The Primary 5, 6 and 7's from Cochrane Castle Primary School took part in our In Business with the Games programme last week.

Two of our training team went along to run the day along with two volunteers from the Department for Work and Pensions. The pupils had a fantastic day learning about the Commonwealth Games and how they will impact Scottish businesses. They were challenged to come up with some business ideas for different sectors that will be affected by the Games. One of these ideas was a bouncing bus on springs to get people around Glasgow during the Games.

The young people had to work in teams throughout the day and present their business ideas to the rest of the group. They all really enjoyed the day with one pupil saying 'doing the presentations was great.'

The volunteers who attended the day were impressed with the programme and how well the pupils did at completing the tasks they were set. One of the volunteers, Richard, said 'it's very important to teach the young people the legacy that the Games will bring as it is a great part of Scotland and will be talked about for years to come.'

In Business with the Games is a programme designed to raise awareness of theGlasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games through an interactive range of activitiesfocussed on the potential business sectors that will benefit from 'the Games’.Utilising a whole school day learners complete a range of interactive activitiesincluding product creation and presentation. The materials for the day are available to download for free here and the day can be run by a teacher.

If you're a teacher why not get the materials and give your class a 'double thumbs up day of fun' before the Summer holidays and an opportunity to learn more about this important event for Scotland this summer.
