The internet, smart technology and social media have transformed our lives, with each now having a huge influence on the way we learn, work, play and communicate.

The digital age is certainly here - but what does this mean for our health? And how do we stay fit and well as our world moves increasingly online?

What is the #DigiInventorsChallenge

The #DigiInventorsChallenge, in association with Andy Murray and the Digital Health & Care Institute, and sponsored by Sopra Steria is on a mission to find smart new ways to help Scotland's young people keep active, eat well and stay healthy and happy, now and in the future.

This is where you come in!

We want you to play a part in helping reverse the trends that have led to young Scots being rated as having one of the worst diets and lowest activity levels in the world. With your help, we can change the habits that are setting Scotland up for a lifetime of ill health.

As a professional tennis player, I use digital health technology every day to monitor my performance and inform my training regime. But digital health technology is not just for athletes. It has the potential to help everyone understand their health needs and goals better, and make better choices.

By taking part in the #DigiInventorsChallenge we want you to use your experiences, your creativity and your digital skills to develop one big idea that you know will make a difference to you and your classmates.

How to get involved

In teams of four to six, supported by at least one adult mentor, we want you to develop an idea that will help young people participate in the active management of their health, fitness and wellbeing, using digital technology.

We've all heard of apps that analyse diet and mood, watches that monitor heart rates and games that promote exercise - but what's the next big thing?

That's up to you.

The prize

The #DigiInventorsChallenge offers an incredible prize package!

Each member of all shortlisted teams will receive an incredible Apple iWatch and the winning team will also receive Apple iPads and £2,000 for their school, college or club.

How to apply

To enter, your mentor must first of all register your team by 3rd April 2017 by completing the online registration form.

More specifically, we want to know:

  • What is it and how does it work?
  • What health and care problem does your idea solve? And why is this important?
  • How does your idea apply digital technology?
  • Could your idea be made available to all young people in Scotland? If so, how?
  • Why do you think your idea should win?
  • What do you think will make people want to use your idea? And what benefits will it bring?
  • What do you think your idea needs to make it a reality?

You will also be required to prepare and upload one of the following, which will describe your idea and how it works:

  • A PowerPoint presentation
