YES Minibus Driving Fun Forward

When Arnold Clark donated our mini bus to us in 2018, we were over the moon.

Not only were we able to transfer more of the young people we work with to our site at Rouken Glen, it allowed us to work more closely in partnership with other organisations like ourselves.

An organisation sharing in our endeavour to deliver benefits to young people is Cosgrove Care. Cosgrove Care help to support individuals of any age and ability to live full and independent lives.

Over the summer, our Pathways Activities slow and we aren't as in-demand for moving young people, so we decided to pool resources with Cosgrove Care to allow them to increase the reach of their young people.

We were able to support the engagement of up to 22 young people every day and many travelled to places they'd never been; including Prestwick Beach, Five Sisters Zoo in Livingston, local parks and Conic Hill in Loch Lomond.

With the use of the YES bus we could do this with ease. This broke down a lot of barriers for us and we could access lots of different activities, some of which were new places for our children.

Using our mini bus meant that the young people were able enjoy their travel even more than usual as they were able to choose what music they got to play with. Carla, one of the young people benefitting from the bus enjoyed getting to be the DJ and playing tunes they could dance to.

We asked some of the young people what they thought of the bus:

I love this bus cause I can sit up the back with my friends.

This bus helps us to get to fun places!

Ciaran

Some of the other passengers were able to express what they thought in their own way, with Zoha Makaton signing 'bus' as she loved it. Archie, who uses a talker to communicate pressed 'excited' when asked if he liked the bus.
