Young Trustees

Young Trustee

4 Board meetings per year

Unpaid role

Young Enterprise Scotland is a national financial and enterprise education charity, and we are looking to appoint two socially conscious, community-minded people to our Board of Trustees in order to represent the young people that we serve at Board level.

We are seeking applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds, reflecting the geography and demographic make-up of the young people we support, and would also encourage applications from earlier-career applicants and those for whom this would be their first time serving as a board member.  We particularly welcome applications from those aged 18 – 30 years.

This is both a challenging and exciting time for YES, and the YES Young Trustees will work with fellow Board members, our CEO and the YES team to deliver on our 3-year strategy #EnterpriseForAll.

Our Trustee Role Specification is below. We would be particularly interested if you have some of the following:

  • Knowledge of Young Enterprise Scotland, e.g. as a recent alumni or volunteer
  • Experience of volunteering for a charity or involvement with a community group or social enterprise
  • Active current involvement in a youth group or similar environment
  • An interest in education, in particular, enterprise and financial education for young people
  • A desire to improve the life chances of all young people
  • An interest in current affairs

Above all, we are looking for people who share our vision and our values. We’re here to help young people build successful futures. If that drives you and if you believe you have skills and experience that will make a difference then we would love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will need to attend 4 board meetings per year.  This is an unpaid role but reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

If you’d like to apply to join the charity at this exciting time, please send a CV and note of interest (can be in any form including audio/visual) outlining your suitability for the role (no more than two sides of A4) addressed to our Chairman, Bill McDonald, at by 5pm on Monday 20th September.

We anticipate interviews will begin from Monday 4th October 2021 via Microsoft Teams.   Those invited to interview will be required to outline their understanding of the role of a charity trustee, and why they would be the best person for the YES role.
